Who can provide an Energy Rating.
Anyone with basic computer skills and an ability to read house plans can use the FirstRate software to do an energy rating on a home.
Anyone who purchases the software and passes the Sustainable Energy exam can gain accreditation enabling them to certify ratings.
No formal building qualifications are required.
Hopefully this will be changed in the future.
Once a Rater stipulates requirements and certifies drawings for a building permit application, the building surveyor will enforce those requirements.
The recommendations made by your selected Energy Rater must be feasible, economical and in line with both the Builder and Owners requirements.
We strongly recommend using only persons with a sound knowledge and history in building design or construction registered with the Building Practitioners Board of Victoria
