To be able to provide ratings acceptable to Councils in Victoria as part of the Building Permit application, raters must be accredited or recognised by the Victorian Governments Sustainable Energy Authority.

An Accredited Energy Rater is able to provide the required documentation, stamp and sign off the plans to be submitted for building approval.
Energy Raters who are also registered 'Building Practitioners' with the Victorian Building Commission will be insured for ratings undertaken by their required Professional Indemnity Insurance.
