Background
Early in 1991 it was evident that the, at that time, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources proposed to establish a Weed Control Group in the Carrajung area.
A group of landholders formed to ensure that the community would be represented locally and Alan Dunkley was successful in applying for and being appointed as co-ordinator on behalf of the local community to the D.C.N.R.
At the inaugural meeting, attended by 34 community members, speakers - Trevor Cox (DNRE), Brian Dowley (DNRE), Murray Bassett ( Toora Ragwort Group), Rob Davidson (Binginwarri Ragwort Group), Len Mayo (DNRE) - outlined the various expectations and requirements of the group.
An executive committee was subsequently elected consisting of Malcolm Woolcock, Shiela King, Alan Borland (APM), Peter Clarkson, David Coulthard, & Steve DeClifford.
During 1995, with funding for both the groups co-ordinator and ragwort control ending, the executive decided upon expanding the area covered by the group to represent a greater number of land holders and to provide representation on a larger range of issues.
The Carrajung and District Land Management Group was formed.
Today
The Land Management Group continues to provide a valuable contribution to the local community landholders and holds meetings on the third Wednesday of each month at the Carrajung South Hall for anyone wishing to be involved.
