The Jungadale Reserve is 96 hectares of native forest managed by the Carrajung Conservation Reserve Association.

In July 1998, Australian Paper Plantations donated $162,912.00 to the Carrajung Conservation Reserve Association, allowing it to purchase the bushland block at the junction of Grand Ridge Road and Hyland Highway.
The reserve is simply known as Jungadale, a name suggested by Eric Kesper a pupil at Carrajung South Primary School.
With the assistance of Trust For Nature, a conservation covenant protects the land from the destruction or removal of any local indigenous flora or fauna and their related habitats. The covenant also protects against future subdivision and development of the land in any form.

A team of young people from Green Corp has developed a 1.2km. walking track, which allows visitors to experience the many natural beauties of the reserve. Tables and chairs have been erected a short distance into the reserve from the main entrance on Grand Ridge road.

Jungadale is unique! While many public reserves are managed by local community committees, the land is either crown land or council owned. In this case, it is the very first gift of private land to be acquired for the public providing independent local community ownership and control.

The conservation value of Jungadale is recognised by the Trust for Natures acknowledgement of the existance of Strezlecki Koalas within the reserve. The strain has been identified by Dr. B. Houlden of the School of Biological Science Unitversity of N.S.W.
Her work confirms that Koalas here are genetically unique. As such they are part of the only known endemic colony of Koalas to exist in Victoria.

The site is prolific with flora and fauna for the avid observers with resident Lyrebirds, Wallabys, Echidnas and the occasional Black Snake making appearances. A stroll along either of the two walking tracks is well worth the effort to take in this unique unspoilt reserve.
