The Carrajung Memorial Oval site was purchased from Mr. Luke McDermott in the 1890's from a front section of his 40 hectare property.
In its early days it was the hub for sporting activities in the district with annual New Years Day sports events including wood chopping, foot races, high jump and horse racing. The Carrajung Football Club was a founding member of the Alberton Football League and many matches were held at the oval until the club disbanded in 1953. More recently - during the 1990's - the Hyland Horse Riding Club hosted many competitions with other Gippsland clubs, until rising insurance costs forced a closure to the events. Currently the oval sees the occasional tourist and locals out for a stroll - a far removal from its original heyday.
The Committee has worked hard, installing new toilets, providing a water supply to the BBQ area, repainting the main entrance gates and also working with the RSL to have both plaques at the entrance pillars renewed. Hopefully in years to come there will be a resurgence in the use of this historical site.

Built in 1939, the Carrajung Community Hall and land was offered to the community by the Catholic Church in the late 1990's.
It is one of few such venues owned solely by the local community. Used extensively by local groups and as the focal point for community activities the Hall may be hired by contacting the management committee.
